Pintxo List [Updated] - Donostia - San Sebastián [English]
In the Old Town:
CALLE FERMÍN CALBETÓN
🧀 Idiazabal Risotto (my favorite in the universe) and 🐖 Cheek at Borda Berri (the garlic soup in a small dish is perfect if it's cold) and the kebab pintxo is to cry for - don't miss it.
CALLE SAN VICENTE
Bells Bar (formerly Colchonería) - a recent addition to the old part: pintxos and rations menu here
CALLE PESCADERÍA (PARALLEL TO FERMÍN)
🐟 Anchovies at Txepetxa: my favorites are the spider crab and sea urchin ones. The recipe is secret, which is another reason to visit.
🌏 Any pintxo at Kapadokia, especially the puntaletes 😍. Plus, it's run by a wonderful team. They've recently won the prize for the best tortilla de patata.
CALLE 31 DE AGOSTO
CALLE MAYOR
A classic of classics: 🍤 Gabardine Shrimp at Paco Bueno (a bar that's been around forever, a pilgrimage spot for the locals)
PLAZA SAN TELMO
Zazpi STM: excellent service and they just won 3 Eguzkilores. They've been top in the city center for years, and now in their new location too. 🦪 Oyster, 🥬 lettuce, and txakoli, stewed ear and snout, or scallop, beans, and fennel are some pintxo recommendations. There's also a restaurant.
BOULEVARD
Arenales: a perfect place to sit and eat. Well-prepared food, good prices, excellent service.
Gros Neighborhood:
CALLE GENERAL ARTETXE
Bar Bergara 👨🏻🍳: Txalupa and Udaberri are classics (accompanied by txakoli) - one of my favorite places; Monty is one of the best in Donostian hospitality.
Mussel Croquette at Bar Ricardo (they also have an amazing vermouth here)
MORE GROS
Bodega Donostiarra, a neighborhood classic at Calle Peña y Goñi 13: the famous one is ‘el completo’
Center:
Two spots I love: Iturrioz and Antonio (recently opened in the old Barandiaran on the Donostian Boulevard). Also Ciaboga,, Espiga, etc.
Beyond pintxos, restaurants I recommend:
Urola Restaurant: also has great pintxos, but it's one of my favorite restaurants. Spectacular clam rice and excellent fish.
Aitor Santamaria - Sukaldean Restaurant: if there's a young talent worth millions in Donostian cuisine, it's him. Plus, the building is a beautiful old convent 🤍
Saltxipi Restaurant: ideal in summer with its beautiful terrace. And in winter, one of the coziest places, located in the best neighborhood in the world 😍
Rekondo Restaurant: pro Basque traditional cuisine, with a spectacular summer terrace and the most unique wine cellar 🍷 you'll find around here.
If you want a steak 🥩, potatoes 🥔, and peppers 🫑, go to the Txuleta restaurant in Plaza Trinidad in the Old Part.
Another famous steak is at Nestor, on Calle Pescadería (also get the tomato salad 🍅 there).
Narru, Rita, Txapela, Ekaitz, the bar at Amaiketako, etc.
Will keep adding 🤍
